Localise the Love Photography Exhibition 2024

The business owners of Zinc, a vintage store on Sydney Road BrunswickIn 2024, the Sydney Road Brunswick Association (SRBA) arranged the next instalment of our photography exhibition, previously known as Faces Behind the Scene. This year we welcomed a fresh look – under the umbrella of our ongoing Localise the Love (support local) campaign.

The Localise the Love photography exhibition, like that of Faces Behind the Scene, focussed on capturing portraits of the business owners and operators along Sydney Road Brunswick. The portraits were coupled with short bio’s of the subjects and their connections to the business and area.

Within the current climate, supporting local has never been more important. SRBA used this photography exhibition to, per previous years, tell the stories of those that make up the Sydney Road Brunswick precinct and create an emotional connection – this time in an exhibition space!

The Localise the Love Photography Exhibition:

  • Occupied a retail space on Sydney Road Brunswick for a 5-week exhibition, open to the public, in the lead up to, during, and post the Sydney Road Street Party (Sunday 3 March 2024)
  • Offered participants the opportunity to list their photograph for sale, with all sale proceeds going back to the artist
  • Included an opening night and networking event
  • Will continue to have select photographic outcomes used in long-term Localise the Love precinct campaign materials.

In addition to the above, and as per previous years, the program also:

  • Paid participants $100 for their involvement
  • Awarded a $500 first prize, as well as a $250 second prize (at the opening night)

The 2024 Localise the Love Photography Exhibition timelines were:

  • Applications opened: Wednesday 20 December 2023

  • Exhibition: On Display from Tuesday 27 February 2024, until Saturday 30 March 2024
  • Launch: Tuesday 27 February 2024, from 6.30pm

The purpose of this exhibition was to:
The exhibition was designed to visually communicate the rich diversity of businesses and their backgrounds within the Sydney Road Brunswick precinct; conveying the stories of who they are and how they came to be.

The Sydney Road Brunswick precinct has over 525 businesses and behind each counter there is a person with a story to tell – this exhibition was designed to highlight and showcase that, reinforcing the need to support the local business community.
