Volaris Music Centre: Forty Years in the Family Business
Congratulations to Peter Volaris and family, who are celebrating 40 years on Sydney Road. First opened near Blyth St in 1975, Volaris Music Centre have been sharing their love of music with customers and local community for 40 years.
A fifth-generation musician, Peter’s original focus was on traditional Greek instruments, and this remains a point of difference in the instruments stocked within the store.
Peter’s son Ken, who now runs most of the day-to-day operations after growing up in the store, believes diversity is the key to success, “Being of Greek origin, it was natural for us to have ethnic instruments in the store. This makes us unique; other stores send customers to us because of the diversity that we have here.”
The store stocks a wide range of instruments, accessories and printed music, and has published a wide range of colourful music books for beginners which are sold across Australia.
Good service has been vital to ensuring the business’ longevity, and several of Peter’s original students are now bringing their grandchildren in to learn an instrument!
With over 200 students enrolled in the music school, it;s vital to love what you do. “I get so much enjoyment from seeing young children coming in with guitar or violin in hand; when I ask how their lesson was, I get a big smile,” says Peter.
“The goal with the store was always to be happy, impart knowledge, look after our customers, be creative and at the same time be a good member of the community, and here we are, 40 years on.”
