Sydney Road Street Party 2016 Wrap-Up

This year’s Sydney Road Street party was a relaxed day out for families, locals and visitors alike. A variety of food, music and street entertainers enticed the eye as crowds enjoyed stopping along the street at a variety of stalls and stages with something for everyone.

Set up at Victoria Street, the SRBA stage was surrounded by umbrellas, tables and chairs to give our audience some respite from the heat. The stage was set for up-and-coming local acts, featuring Danika Smith first up, her cheeky and poetic lyrics a treat for the audience.

The dance groups were a highlight, getting the crowd out of their seats and onto the dance floor! All dolled up in 1950’s rockabilly chic, Alley Catz Rock ‘n’ Roll showed us the Lindy hop and the Charleston. A great opportunity for our diverse audience to see local music, have a dance together and maybe even learn some new steps.

Local songbird Darcy Fox was deft with a loop pedal, constructing a full and detailed sound with just her voice and guitar. Bow down, Brunswick! Bey Dance demonstrated Beyonce-inspired moves that rocked our world, and got everyone up to have a go at emulating Queen Bey.

Alexander Biggs had swagger and sunglasses on, drawing the audience in to his dark and crooning tunes. Finally, the African Dance and Drumming Show capped off a great afternoon with a huge crowd gathering to dance in response to their infectious enthusiasm.

The 2016 Eating Guide, as well as SRBA calico shopping bags, were distributed to street party-goers, and limited edition SRBA t-shirts were given to audience members who got up to join in the dancing. A great time was had by all – we can’t wait to do it all again next year!
