A night to remember
Live music and entertainment such as trivia, comedy, theatre and movie nights provide the pulsing heartbeat that runs down the length and breadth of Sydney Road Brunswick. Live music alone attracts hundreds of music lovers to the street every year; not only do we play host to the annual Brunswick Music Festival each March and the amazing Street Party, but we also have an excellent number of quality music venues, all providing a platform for performers and live musicians from around the world. Check out The Brunswick Hotel, The Retreat, Edinburgh Castle Hotel and The Brunswick Green who all have fabulous beer gardens to enjoy, with Spotted Mallard and Penny Black, all presenting innovative and entertaining nights. The smaller intimate bars, like Joey Smalls, Red Betty and a popular one, Bar Oussou, all bring together, the locals and visitors in a friendly, accepting way.
Some more hidden away- are always a delight, and presenting a different feel, like ‘Daddy’ where you feel right at home, or Biff Tannin’s– where self-serve wine makes for an interesting concept.
Plenty of entertainment
Open mic nights, poetry readings and comedy nights encourage participation and fun, and display homegrown talent and the up and coming acts from Melbourne and beyond. Trivia reigns supreme at The Edinburgh Castle, as well The Cornish Arms, with open doors at other easy-going pubs along the stretch. Notable too are the excellent weekly movie nights at The Penny Black and theatre performances at The Mechanics Institute.
After hours entertainment and club events are provided by venues such as My Aeon, The Retreat, Stay Gold and Bombay Rock and even Maxine’s Gentleman’s Club or if you’re after a more chilled out evening of a more titillating nature! And, there’s always the option for chilling out with a Shisha Pipe, at a shisha café, like Arabica Lounge, Café Coco or the Temple of Shisha towards the top end of Sydney Road, Brunswick.
There’s certainly enough to do on this strip, in the evening!
