Sydney Road celebrates 175 Years in 2025!

Established in 1850 as Sydney Road by surveyor Robert Hoddle, the road previously carried names as Brunswick Road and Pentridge Road, before its current and longstanding name. Fast forward to 2025, and we are excited to celebrate 175 years of an iconic road.

Sydney Road has long been a standout place of commerce, community and creativity (in all its wild and wonderful forms).

With festivities in the works for later in the year – we wanted to start off strong and celebrate now! To help us do this we launched a design competition last year, calling for artists to create a design that visually recognises the diverse nature of the road, and all that it has and does attract.

Sydney Road turning 175 years is a momentous occasion to be celebrated, and SRBA wanted to ensure that the chosen concept represented a diverse landscape, inclusive of community, commerce and creativity – which underpins the precinct both historically and in present day.

Recently, the Association was proud to award Jess Kitty Parker as the winner of the design competition, with her piece that speaks to all that’s wonderful and iconic about Sydney Road.

To help us celebrate this creative design, we’re releasing limited edition t-shirts and totebags – launching at the Sydney Road Street Party! Want to nab one for yourself? Come on down to the event and buy yours! More information on the Sydney Road Street Party can be found here.
