A night of Poetry and Storytelling

Not held since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the famed Writers Contest & Cup is back for 2022, with registrations now closed for entrants to Short Story and/or Poetry categories.

Whether you see yourself as a beginner or the quite the pro with a pen – the Writers Contest & Cup is open to anyone, and everyone is encouraged to enter.

PRIZES
– $500 per category
with the Overall Winner taking home the perpetual cup till end of 2022, with their name engraved upon it
– $250 Encouragement Award

KEY DATES
Registrations Open: Thursday 12 May 2022
Registrations Close: Monday 13 June 2022
Writers Contest & Cup: Thursday 16 June 2022

Three Hands Cafe, 446 Sydney Road Brunswick. Start time: 7pm.

FURTHER DETAILS

• As an entrant into the Cup, you’ll take to the podium to present your piece in front of an audience and judges, with entrants allowed 4 minutes for Short Story and 3 minutes for Poetry.
• The contest is open to all, provided they are willing to present their original piece with a live spoken reading. No covers of existing pieces will be allowed in the contest. Original pieces only.
• Entrants must have two pieces ready or prepared for the contest. Should they become a finalist from the first round, their second piece will need to be read out in the final round. The final round will consist of 3 people from both short story and poetry.
• Most of all, the contest is designed to be a bit of fun, no matter your skill level or pen prowess!
