3 WAYS TO AVOID
 AWKWARD CHRISTMAS PARTY CONVERSATIONS

Guest Blog from Sydney Road’s Mary Eats Cake.

The High Tea and event specialists at Mary Eats Cake know a thing or 10 about Christmas Party etiquette. Here are their tips on how to avoid awkward Christmas party conversations.

  1. It’s important to have some planned kick-starter conversation topics up your sleeve in times of desperation. Ask if they are spending time away, what they are contributing for Christmas lunch or if they have asked for something special. Note: Avoid topics such as whether they think Bruce from accounts has been naughty or nice this year or how often you binge-listen to the Dawson’s Creek soundtrack.

  1. Work best friends – the one person that understands the stresses of your day better than your partner or friends and the one who can say ‘I wish whoever is tapping their pen would quit it’ with a single look. Organise to arrive together and it’ll be just like a night out…with your boss.

  1. If all else fails, no one wants to talk to somebody with a mouth full of cake so make sure there’s plenty of it around on standby. Put as much of it in your mouth as you can muster and raise your glass with a sense of celebration at passers-by.
